Congratulations to all the Arlington Seniors who participated in the TN Senior Olympics!! It was a great time for all involved. We had several residents win medals, which qualifies them for the 2025 National Senior Olympics!!
Join us this Friday for Arlington's Star Spangled Spectacular!! We'll kick off at 6pm with live music from Big Wheel and multiple food vendors. Then we'll light up the night with a fireworks display at 9:15pm.
So start gathering your picnic blankets and lawn chairs, even umbrellas and popup tents to beat the heat (but please take them down before the fireworks).
Coolers and picnic baskets are allowed (just no cooking or glass containers please for safety reasons). However, there will be some great food vendors on-site to visit, who all support our local sports groups.
Lastly - parking is limited, so plan ahead and walk, bike, or carpool if you can. Handicap parking will be available at the Sports Complex.
TN needs your input. The State is developing a 5-year strategic plan and is looking for the public's experiences and opinions on housing issues. They are asking residents to take part in an anonymous housing survey to provide their input by July 31, 2024.
The survey is open to ALL Tennesseans: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QPY2Z8F
You can reach out to the TN Housing Development Agency with any questions at: research@thda.org

Please ensure cans of WET PAINT are NOT being put in your garbage cans. WastePro staff only find the paint once it's smashed inside the truck, which sometimes ends up on them too.
If you have leftover paint, leave the cans open to dry - then you can throw it away safely in your bin. If you have too much, wet paint can be taken to the Household Hazardous Waste facility at 6305 Haley Rd (no latex paint accepted).
The Facility also accepts other materials that are unsafe to throw in your bins. Check their website for more information, hours, and details: https://www.shelbycountytn.gov/439/Household-Hazardous-Waste
You can also contact Public Works or check the Town website for more information or questions on trash & recycle issues: https://www.townofarlington.org/page/solid-waste-recycle-collections
Saturday morning is the next Arlington Crossing Market (6/15). Hope to see you there!
We'll have many of your favorite vendors returning! A list of anticipated vendors is attached and on the Town website: https://www.townofarlington.org/page/the-market
Don't let garbage odors trash your summer. A few simple steps in the summer heat can help stop odors in your trash bins and in our Town.
☀️ Bag your garbage securely and keep your bins closed. This reduces the opportunities for pests to gain access and odors to escape. (just remember to not bag recyclables)
☀️ Rinse food from cans and bottles before tossing in the recycle bin - a quick step that can save you during summer heat.
☀️ Don't throw liquids in your trash - not only will things like old milk begin to smell and attract pests, they're also more likely to be spilled on our streets when handled by garbage trucks - and nobody wants that.
☀️ Clean your trash bins out when they need it. Even in the best circumstances, trash bins get dirty. A quick wash with a water hose and soap can cut down on odors from the can.
☀️ Don't store bins inside a garage - as enclosed spaces will concentrate the smell even more.
☀️ Try to store outside bins in a shady spot, out of direct sunlight - this will keep the temperatures from spiking inside the can and accelerating decomp and odors.
JOB FAIR - Thursday, June 20th from 4:30-7pm at the Arlington Safe Room. There are open positions in a number of Town departments. Bring a resume & completed Town application.

Come explore a rewarding career with the Town of Arlington! Your next career move starts here!!
ROAD CONSTRUCTION - It's street improvement season! Most recently, work began on Commander Dr. and Larry Anderson. The process may look a little strange - as it includes a loose rock placed on the road, which is then covered with a seal coat after about a week of compaction.
So don't worry - what you see initially is not a finished product. This process will ultimately seal any moderate cracks, provide skid resistance, seal the pavement against moisture intrusion, and restore a uniform black appearance to our roads.
In the meantime, drive safely in construction areas & obey any posted detour signs while we improve our Town.
Looking for a new job? The Town of Arlington will be hosting a Job Fair on June 20th for 14 open positions in several different Town departments. Stay tuned for more information soon!
The Town of Arlington Board of Zoning Appeals will hold a Public Hearing at 5:30pm on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Town Hall, 5854 Airline Rd, to consider:
A variance request to use alternate side setbacks for Lot 6 in Village of Donelson Farms.
Summer is here and the Star Spangled Spectacular is right around the corner!! Be sure you're ready Friday night, June 28th to come out for food, fun, and entertainment.
The Band will start at 6pm and food vendors will be on-site to serve you an array of treats! Fireworks are scheduled at 9:15pm. https://www.townofarlington.org/page/fireworks
Have you checked the Library summer schedule? Don't miss out!! Join the Dixon Art Gallery for activities this Thursday. Try your hand at Bingo on Mondays. Storytime with the Fire Department next Tuesday. Meet a Park Ranger & their animals at the end of the month. And that's just the tip of the iceberg...speaking of, there's an Ice Block Treasure Hunt on the 12th.
It's too much for one post - so check the Library Programs page and FB for all the fun!! https://www.townofarlington.org/page/programs
