🚨 Mosquito Control in Arlington - We’ve seen some questions about mosquito control trucks in town earlier this week. The Shelby County Health Department operates a county-wide Mosquito Control Program to help reduce the spread of West Nile Virus (WNV). Six cases have ben reported in Shelby County so far this year. To protect public health, SCHD sprays EPA-approved insecticides by truck in affected areas. Each ZIP Code is sprayed at least twice per mosquito season.
Spray schedule for 38002 ZIP Code (weather permitting):
• Monday, Sept. 8 | 7:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, Sept. 10 | 7:30 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.
• Friday, Sept. 12 | 3:45 a.m. – 6:45 a.m.
*REMINDER: 38002 includes parts of several cities and two counties, so trucks in 38002 may not always be inside Arlington limits.
✅ Protect yourself: The Health Department encourages insect repellent with DEET when outdoors.

🚧 Paving Work Begins Week of September 15 🚧 Arlington will begin a pressure paving project next week to extend the life of several neighborhood streets. This new treatment pressure-injects sealant into cracks while applying a thin overlay in a single process — meaning it’s quicker, more cost-effective, and allows traffic to resume in minutes.
Neighborhood streets included in this round of paving are:
CARTERS COVE
- Carters View Ln
- Henning Oaks Ln
- Henning Oaks Cv
SNYDER GROVE
- Jon Oak Dr
- Joshua Oak Dr
- Valerie Creek Cv

We’re excited to introduce this treatment as part of our ongoing investment in Arlington’s infrastructure. As always, DRIVE WITH CAUTION in work areas. Thank you for your patience while crews are at work!

🚧 Safety Improvements Underway 🚧 Crews began work today to install rumble strips at the intersection of Milton Wilson and Forrest Street, with the goal to complete the project over the weekend.
This wide 4-way stop has seen accidents in the past, and with growth like Buc-ee’s coming just down the road, these updates are designed to help drivers slow down and stay alert. While a traffic signal isn’t warranted, we’re committed to finding smart, effective ways to calm traffic and improve safety.
We’re also adding rumble strips at the pedestrian crossing by the Tennis Courts to better protect those on foot.
Thank you for your patience as these projects wrap up — and for driving safely as our community grows!

Town departments will be there, but we need local businesses, schools, and community groups to bring the magic (and the candy)!
Spots are limited, so if you're ready to decorate a trunk, show off your spooky spirit, and make a lot of kids smile, head to the website and apply now! 👉 www.townofarlington.org/o/arlington/page/trunk-or-treat

📅 MEETING REMINDER - The September Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting will be held Tuesday, September 2, due to the Labor Day holiday.
Note: The meeting will take place at the ACS Board of Education building (12060 Arlington Trail) while Town Hall is under construction

Monday is also a Trash Service holiday, so daily waste & recycle collections will be shifted forward one (1) day. Trucks will run Tuesday-Saturday instead.

The rupture caused asphalt damage in one lane, but all lanes are closed at this time while Arlington Fire, Highway Patrol, MLGW, and TDOT are on site.
Traffic can detour around the area using Jetway and Memphis Arlington Road.
We’ll share updates they become available .

At least one lane of traffic will remain open in each direction, but traffic patterns may change. Please WATCH for workers, obey posted signs, and drive with extra CAUTION in the construction area
This project will mean a smoother, safer drive for everyone — thank you for your patience as we make it happen!

Special Visitors at Fire Station #2! We had such a great time today welcoming a large group from Shepherd's Haven, a local nonprofit serving special needs adults in our community.
They toured the station, got a peek at how our firefighters live and work, learned how calls come in, and checked out the equipment that helps us respond.
A big thank you to our guests for the thoughtful gifts — hand-painted, bright red ceramic magnets. How did they know a firefighter’s favorite color?

🍳 Your Kitchen Grease Doesn’t Belong in the Sewer!
We love bacon. We love fried chicken.
We don’t love what their grease does to our pipes.
When fats, oils, and grease (FOG) go down the drain, they cool off and harden, clinging to pipes like that stubborn last pancake on a griddle. The result? Big clogs, big mess, and big bills — plus sewer water in our streams (or homes).
Instead of sharing gross pipe pics, meet our new archenemy: FOG - a villain who lurks in drains waiting to cause trouble.
Here’s the easy fix to keep FOG out of our pipes:
- Wipe pans with a paper towel before washing
- Pour cooled grease into a container and toss it in the trash
- Never pour oil or grease down the sink or toilet
Together, we can keep Arlington’s pipes clear, streams clean, and FOG out of our town.
