2017 News Story

We were recently forced to make a decision regarding the safety and viability of the Playground of Dreams. It had been closed due to safety concerns, allowing our Parks Department as well as outside professionals to evaluate the condition and our options. Closing the playground was not enough. Wooden playground structures have a useful life expectancy of 10-15 years. Our Parks Department had done everything they could over the years to maintain the safety and integrity of the playground. Certified Safety Professionals have determined that grave safety concerns existed, and our best course of action was to remove the existing playground structure immediately and plan for a replacement playground structure. It is our intent to incorporate the tiles, bricks and pickets that our community contributed as part of the fundraising efforts for the original playground into the new design. We understand the work and passion that our community members contributed during the build and we want to continue to recognize these efforts by incorporating those elements in to the new structure.
