MLGW lifts conservation order
(January 22, 2024) - Effective at 11 a.m., Memphis Light, Gas and Water is lifting its water conservation order as water service and pressures return to normal.
Residential, commercial, and industrial customers are no longer required to limit water use. The precautionary boil water advisory is still in effect.
MLGW's Water Quality Laboratory has started its water supply sampling and testing for quality and clarity. Samples must incubate 18- 24 hours before results are available. MLGW will send results to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) to confirm water quality meets standards and with TDEC's approval MLGW can lift the advisory.
Over the past week MLGW has located and repaired more than 56 broken water mains, responded to more than 4,000 customers, residential and commercial, that reported broken pipes and shut off nearly 100 fire suppression systems to keep them from bursting or to help limit the damage from already broken pipes.
As pressure is restored, some MLGW customers may experience discolored water. MLGW asks those customers to let water run until it is clear. Sediment in the water system can cause discoloration.
