Public Works operates from 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday to Friday. Public Works can be contacted at 901-867-4980.
Who do I contact for an after-hours emergency problem?
Always call 9-1-1 in the event of an immediate emergency.
Call (901) 568-4259 for the After-Hours PW line, in the event of a Public Works problem that cannot wait until normal business hours, such as a missing street sign, dangerous pothole, or stormwater drainage/flooding issue.

How do I sign up for utilities in Arlington?
Utilities in Arlington are provided by the Town and by Memphis Light, Gas and Water (MLGW). For information on how to sign up for various utilities, see the Utilities page.
There's a problem with a streetlight in my neighborhood. What should I do?

What is my trash day?
Both trash and recycle collection are picked up on the same day. To find your Collection Day, check the Garbage Collection Schedule map, or call Public Works with questions (901-867-4980).
My trash/recyclables/yard waste wasn't picked up. What should I do?
I have a large item to throw away. Can I put it with my regular trash?
Bulk items, such as appliances and furniture, will be picked up on the same day as your regular scheduled Garbage pick-up, if it is placed on the curb by 7:00am on your pick-up day. There is no additional charge for this service. (Excess local demand can delay the service by a day or two.)
Please Note - refrigerators and freezers must have the compressor removed, otherwise Waste Pro will not pick them up. Also, their doors must be taken off or well taped shut for safety purposes before placing them at the street.
Placement - be aware of surrounding obstacles when placing items at the curb for pick-up. Be sure they are several feet away from garbage cans, mailboxes, utility boxes, light poles, and fire hydrants. In addition, Do NOT allow items to block storm drains, which can cause flooding in the event of a rain event.
What is yard waste and where do I put it for pick-up?
Yard Debris or Yard Waste is organic material that can be broken down by oxidation. Examples include: grass clippings, leaves, twigs and branches, scraps, dead weeds and garden plants.
Yard Debris will be picked up on your regular Collection Day. Like trash can, they should be placed at the curb by 7:00am on your collection day. Any small items (leaves, grass, twigs) must be bagged.
Placement - be aware of obstacles when placing items at the curb for pick-up. Place them several feet away from garbage cans, mailboxes, utility boxes, light poles, and fire hydrants. In addition - Do NOT place them in the street where they will block Storm Drains. During rain events, they can be washed into the storm drain system or block the drain and result in flooding.
How do I dispose of paint, car batteries, fertilizer, auto fluids, etc?
Household Hazardous Waste includes household items considered to be flammable, toxic, and/or harmful to the environment. This includes items such as paints, auto fluids, car batteries, fertilizers, pool chemicals, etc.
The Shelby County Household Hazardous Waste Facility is available for residents of Shelby County to bring their hazardous waste items. It is located on 6305 Haley Road in Memphis, Tennessee (38134).

Who do I contact about a pothole in Town?
Contact Public Works at (901) 867-4980 with your concern and the pothole location. They will identify whether it is a Town, private, or state-owned street and respond accordingly.
I would like to do work in the public right-of-way. Do I need permission?
Yes. You will need to obtain a Street Cut/Excavation/Driveway Permit. Applications are available online in the Document Center (in Applications: General Permits), or by contacting Town Hall.
