Mr. Lamar moved to Arlington in 1997 and ran for Aldermen in 1999. He was appointed as an Aldermen in 2002 for one year. He ran for Aldermen in 2002 and 2007, and was elected without opposition. He has always desired to serve the Town of Arlington in any way he can. Mr. Lamar was appointed in June of 2016 to serve the remaining term of position number two on the BMA until the 30th of September 2017.
Married to Patricia Lamar for 55 years. They have three daughters, Lisa, Leah, and Lara and four grandchildren: Abby, Alexandra, Magen, and Andrew.
Mr. Lamar has spent his career as an Instructor, Associate Professor and Dean at State Technical Institute, now Southwest Tennessee Community College, from 1970 until he retired in 2001. He continues to teach as an adjunct faculty member and is now in his 47th year of teaching at the college level. He retired as a Senior Master Sergeant from the Tennessee Air National Guard in 1994 after completing 38 years of service in the Mississippi National Guard, United States Air Force and the Tennessee Air National Guard in Memphis logging over 7500 flying hours as a flight engineer on C-124, C-130, and C-141 aircraft.

Hugh and Pat Lamar have been an active member of Central Church since 1974. Hugh has been serving as an usher since 1979 and they also assist with the senior adults.
He received a BBA from Memphis State University in 1965 with a major in Industrial Management and a minor in Accounting. He received a Masters degree from Memphis State University in 1972 with a major in Business Education and a minor in Accounting.
